Hi
I am [HWK]Stonewall Jackson from the Hawks club. I am currently trying to make a mod for ACDN. I have 2 questions. If you plan to post a mod for ACDN on a forum, do you need to ask permission (and how)? How do you add a tree (that you have created) to ACDN?

If you are making a new mod that is entirely your work then generally you do not need permission to post your work, keeping in mind a mod for any of GSC games or Revolution Strategy games must never be sold, it must be made freely available. If you are using other peoples work for your mod, then yes, getting permission first is a must.

There are 2 ways to add a tree to the game, and easy way and a harder way.
The easy way is to replace an existing tree with the new one, this means you don't have to edit/add any of the function/parameter files. To do this extract the TREES.GP file with GP Viewer, open up the folder that you just extracted to and find a tree image that you would like to replace, name your new tree the same as this one and copy the new tree to the extracted folder replacing the original one. Now use Palitra tool to recolor the background color of all the tree images to green (which is the transparent color). Now use the MegaPack tool to repack all the tree image frames into the new TREES.GP file. Now use the GSC File Utility to pack the new TREES.GP into GSC format. To avoid replacing the games original "patch/mod" structure (PATCH01.GS1 & PATCH.GS1 etc.) don't name the new mod file either of these. Copy your new .GS1 file to your games "Run" directory (usually C:\Program Files\American Conquest - Divided Nation\Run\) and start the game to find your new tree.

The harder way is to create a new tree entry, you need to add the new tree frame/image to the TREES.GP file, because its a new entry you must add the tree name to TREELIST.LST & TREELIST.RSR & also add the parameters, and also add the name in the TREES.LST (which is inside the TREES.GP file). Follow the instructions from the first option. Divided Nation also uses a TREELIST-NOBLOCK.RSR file.

Also keep in mind which type of climatic zone your tree features in, example: Palm trees- Desert climate. Pine & Oak trees- North American climate etc.

The first option would probably be the best if you want a fast and simple option.

If you need anything else or more information don't hesitate to ask.
