We are always in need for help with the mod, you can help in many ways, and it is always greatly appreciated, heres how you can help:

- Unit & building makers are most welcome, we are always in need of units & buildings and the more people we have working on units & buildings the faster this mod is going to be finished. You don't even need to have access to expensive modelling programs such as 3D Studio or Poser as Blender & Bryce are completely free and can create some great units & buildings. OSS has had great success with Blender and his Trebuchet & Siege Ram have come up excellent.
With these free programs theres no excuse now!
Blender: http://www.blender.org/
Bryce 7: http://www.daz3d.com/i/software/bryce7/-/?

- Even if you don't have access to 3D modelling programs or other software you can help in simple ways like analyzing American Conquest data files and working out what function & parameters mean, this comes in very handy as we mod the game knowing what can be done.

- Sound files are always welcome.

Cheap Poser!

For those looking at buying Poser to make your own units, I have found a very cheap source on E-bay, for $29.99 you can get a brand new copy of Poser 7, it's not the latest version but it has all the features that my current Poser 8 has, it only lacks a few irrelevant features that Poser 8 has. Poser is such an easy program to use and creates amazing effects, I have a whole heap of props to help others out with and I can help anyone who wants to learn how to use it, believe me its simple, its a matter of using your mouse to click on body parts and bending/dragging/moving them and using the key frame editor, Poser does all the work for you!

Here's the link to E-bay: http://www.ebay.com/itm....989accc

HWKStonewall also brought to my attention Amazon also offer Poser 7 at a very cheap price, and Amazon are a reputable seller: http://www.amazon.com/gp....ion=new

Lionheart has also brought to my attention Poser Debut, it only costs $49.99 and has most of the features of the Poser 8 has, the only two major things it does not have is the Cloth Room and the Material Room, both of these features aren't essential to making a model. The only thing the Cloth Room will do for you is it can drape clothing, such as the horse blanket I use with my Knight, but this is not essential as all Poser units use conforming clothing with does NOT need to the Cloth Room, my Pikeman and Longbowman units don't use the cloth room, so essentially you don't need it. The material room is the same, you don't really need it to make your models, it only offers extra settings, when you make your own textures you don't need the material room as you end up using GiMP or Paint to make your costume colors/patterns/designs, so all in all I think Poser Debut is excellent value!

Poser Debut: http://poser.smithmicro.com/poser-debut/

I should also mention again how easy it is to use Poser, with the Render Script, I have automatically set it up to render all your animations in the correct directions, you just click on the Poser File menu "Run Python Script" and load the script and the script will handle everything, it's that easy!

Hi, just stumbled across this mod and wanted to offer my services. Although I am not good at modelling I am happy to serve in an historical advisory role as the medieval period has been a personal passion of mine since I could read. I actually work as a sound designer and am more than happy to source and create sound files for use and could probably locate some period music/ write some suitably medieval ambient music ala AOE if that's something you are interested in.

Ive just joined aswell and Im going to try and learn how to model but my main focus is the period and historical accuracy, not to mention game playability. Some a la AOE music would be amazing though! biggrin

Thank you so much for the assistance, it is massively appreciated, we can never have enough help. We can always use historical advice and the sound and music offer is excellent! If you have any ideas please post them in the Idea Implementation thread, positive and negative critism is always welcomed, it pushes us in the right direction.
Lionheart has also offered his assistance, zz has also offered to make some buildings, so I am very happy with the offers of help biggrin

And yeh you could say I'm slightly obsessed with the medieval era biggrin

And I would also like to mention that I would like everyone to get a say in how the mod develops, I'm not one of those snobby modders who makes a mod in my own self interest, it is important for this mod to be community based, I want to make the mod so everyone can enjoy it. If you see something that needs correction or you are not happy with please post on the forums I always appreciate feedback, even if it is critical.

I think most of us have something in common, we seem to be big Age of Empires fans (in my case Age of Empires 2).
I was seriously addicted to this game, I remember spending night after night on the Zone playing sometimes until 2am-3am
I still remember playing Cossacks for the first time and just being blown away at the sheer scale and depth the game has, so many more variables to make game-play even more realistic. My only dream was for a game exactly like Cossacks but in the medieval period, I did fiddle around a bit working out ways to mod the game, but information and tools were scarce on doing this at the time. Then came American Conquest, again I was blown away and amazed that even more features were added to this game than the Cossacks predecessor, but game-play really let the game down, there were massive balance issues and GSC never wanted to address them, so the game went back in its cover for quite a while.
It wasn't until I got American Conquest out and decided to play it on the LAN with a couple of mates and realised the huge potential the game has to feature a medieval based mod, realising that what made the original American Conquest bad, could easily be improved upon by not only modding the in game variables, but also changing the period in which the game is based to the medieval era. And that's when I decided on not just talking about it, but actually doing it!

Can you please describe what Poser is like in general, particularly how it is different from 3ds max if possible?

Well basically Poser is a lot simpler, 90% of the features that 3Ds Max has you will never use for making units in any RTS 2D game, 3Ds Max features are overkill for what we need, were not making a 3D first person shooter game (which Poser can handle as well anyway). Posers interface is so easy to use, the KeyFrame editor is easy to use, lighting, cameras and all those settings are even easier to use, theres no complexity with it, it took me about 1 week to understand Poser and I didn't know a thing about unit making before I got it, and now I can make new units in no time.
To top that off I am in the process of writing up a Poser tips tutorial to show you exactly how to make a unit to suit Cossacks or American Conquest so you can't go wrong.

And finally on top of all that I will be uploading all of my units and animations for everyone to use, how much easier do you wan't it! cool

I have not used 3DS max extensively to really comment on it too much, but if you wan't to make good quality units real quick then Poser is the go, it has a huge community and also a huge range of free props, models & figures.

I don't think so, I know that on the Smith Micro site to try the demo you need a credit card, because you get the full version and if your not happy with it they give you a full refund.
For $30 odd bucks on E-bay what's there to lose, they would probably offer a refund as well?
