stretching and shrinking animation speeds?

I have an interesting idea for my mod. I want to make it so that certain units walk faster than others and some units reload faster than others. For example, light infantry move faster and militia units reload slower. Would it be possible, either in the MD file or an outside source, to expand or contract the length of a single animation so that units have visibly different reload and walking speeds in the game?

You can certainly do this via the .MD file, it's actually very easy, have you viewed the example .MD file parametres here?:
English Pikeman: http://swordandarrow.ucoz.com/index/md_files/0-19
Aztec Archer: http://swordandarrow.ucoz.com/index/aztec_archers_md_file/0-36

To make a unit move faster/slower edit this function: GEOMETRY 1 10 40 Edit the last parameter; e.g. "40".
To change a units rate of fire edit this function: ATTACK_PAUSE 0 1 Edit the last parameter; e.g. "1".

You can use Palitra to change animation speeds by frame count, but the actual speed that a unit moves on the map/screen in the game is always governed by the .MD file.

I should also ask, do you want to change the actual speed the unit moves on the map/screen, or do you just want a units animation to appear longer in the game? If you want the actual animation to appear longer e.g. when a unit walks it takes more steps, you do this by rendering more frames, or by using Palitra, you can also achieve this by rendering less frames and then editing the .MD function @MOTION_ or # function by adding a frame count in the order you like, this is explained in the GSC File Information section in the modding section.

The answer to that question is both. I want the walking animation to be proportional to the movement speed. For example, a unit that walks quickly would step faster and a unit that moves slowly would step slower.

That can be easily done by following the above methods. Most of the American Conquest units have a 15 frame walking cycle, often these types of animations are kept short to preserve computer resources and prevent the game from crashing/reducing lag, I have 30 frame walking cycles with some of my units and have not had any problems so far, the dmcr v2 engine can handle this fine, and it's not big deal considering how long death animations and some firing/reloading animations go for, some are 60 frames +.
Also take into consideration when American Conquest was released PC specs of the day were no way as powerful what we have now, the game runs so well on my new PC, I have to turn the game speed right down because of how quick it will run!

Ok thanks. Where do you get palitra?
